Why a map
Most tools read a project as a pile of text. Every function leans on others, and a change in one place is felt somewhere else.
Find-and-replace sees words. It changes every line that matches and never notices the code that only depends on it.
Empryo starts by mapping the project: which files and symbols exist, and which ones use which. We call that map the Genome. With it, an edit is not a guess: Empryo can see what a change will touch before it makes it.
What Empryo is
Use it in your terminal, as a desktop app, or headless from scripts and CI. You describe a task and the agent reads, edits and checks your code.

When you open a project, Empryo builds a map of your files and symbols and how they depend on each other. It stays current as the code changes.
Edits by structure
Edits go through the code's structure and your language servers. A rename changes the symbol and its references, not every string that matches. More than 40 languages.

Look before changing
Empryo maps your project before it edits it, and keeps that map current.
Change things by name
A rename changes the symbol and its references, not every string that happens to match.
Every change can be undone
Changes are saved as git checkpoints, and /checkpoint undo rolls one back.
Your code goes where you send it
No Empryo account and no Empryo server in the middle. Your code goes only to the provider you choose.
You pick the model
Many providers, local models, or a subscription you already have.
Show the evidence
Automated tests try to break Empryo on macOS, Linux and Windows, and what they find is public.
Your work is yours
Use Empryo for personal projects, company development, paid client work and CI. Sell what you build. Using Empryo gives its owner no ownership of, or license to, your code, inputs or outputs. No royalties or revenue share are owed for your work.
Commercially redistributing Empryo, selling a wrapper, or offering its functionality as a paid or monetized hosted service requires explicit prior written permission in a separate commercial license. This restriction is on Empryo, not what you make with it. Existing third-party rights still apply.
Where it came from
Empryo grew out of SoulForge, an earlier open-source coding agent by the same author. SoulForge showed that editing code as plain text breaks it, and that lesson became the core of Empryo's design. SoulForge's sponsors and community moved over with it.
